Approved certifying organizations set their own testing locations, formats and schedules within EPA's approval. Some test in person at fixed locations, others may offer remote proctoring or scheduled sessions through employers or trade schools. Availability depends on the organization and your region.

How to Evaluate a Provider

Before booking, compare providers on:

• Certification type offered — Core, Type I, Type II, Type III, or a combined Universal exam.
• Testing format — in-person, proctored remote, open-book or closed-book.
• Location or remote availability — whether you need to travel or can test from home or work.
• Price — exam fees vary by organization.
• Retake policy — what happens, and what it costs, if you don't pass on the first attempt.
• Scheduling — how far in advance you need to book, and how often sessions run.
